Summer Part Four- Bentlys in Oregon

After I arrived back in Oregon, we had a week or so until the next guests arrived. (We really packed it in this summer!) But the month of June brought the most unusual visitor of all- Lisa! Lisa managed to fly all the way across the pond and stayed with us in Oregon for a while. I was completely thrilled because thanks to crazy holiday travel and non-travel schedules, our paths hadn’t crossed for about three years. (Andy had seen her last year for Papa George’s birthday, but I missed that great party.) So it was awesome to spend time with her. She visited friends too, of course, but we still had lots of time to hang out at home and catch up, play some Wii, and hit lots of our favorite restaurants. (It IS Portland, after all. Eating well is a requirement when you’re on vacation here. Wait, I used that disclaimer on my Midwestern trip. Whoops. Okay, we’re just eating people.)

Lisa and I hit up the zoo, where I finally saw a bear. Sort of anticlimactic.

Lisa has the right idea. Don’t they look cute sleeping together?

Part of the reason Lisa came to Oregon is because Andy’s dad and Deanie made a rare Portland appearance themselves. For a few days all of us were here together. We had quite a ton of fun. Everybody got treated to vacation photos, of course, and we got to see a lot more pics of how Lisa lives in New Zealand. (And yes, we WILL be visiting there. I’m oh-so-jealous of her beautiful adopted homeland.) And of course, the eating continued… we refer to the last day of this trip as “the donut incident.” Sesame donuts… they don’t get any better…

Lisa’s birthday was the weekend that everybody was here, so we had to make a trip to the obligatory Benihana birthday dinner. Next to my birthday, Lisa’s is my favorite because we always seem to end up there. She’d probably like a more authentic Japanese meal, but I say bring on the hibachi, bring on the fried rice! Woo hoo!

Father’s Day was also the same weekend. That morning we all headed to church in Dundee, and from there drove straight for the coast. Dad and Deanie had read about a fabulous inn on Whale Cove, which is just south of Depoe Bay. I had never been to or heard of Whale Cove, but it was absolutely beautiful.

We all trekked out there together (Andy, Lisa, and I made a “quick stop” (read: ridiculously long detour) up to Tillamook to collect some meat and cheese and crackers for snacks for the next two days) and stayed in a beautiful three-bedroom suite. For dinner we got the freshest seafood takeout any of us have ever had and enjoyed it back up at the Inn. This was Dad’s Father’s Day wish, so we were happy to oblige. It felt like more of a gift to us than to him!

The Inn was fabulous, the room was fabulous, the cove was fabulous, the food was fabulous, and the company was perfect. We spent a great couple days there enjoying the inn and the view, playing games, scoping out seals, and exploring secrets of the early explorers. We almost found the treasure. Almost. My only gripe was that I had to spend most of the second day there working. Having a mobile job is a huge blessing… but sometimes it can really ruin a good day.

All together, it was a great couple weeks. We had so much fun and there definitely isn’t room to talk about it all- and in this case, the picture tell it way better than I could. So check out the rest of the photos- the link is on the right.
